| Hometown U.S.A. - A Tax Education Excercise
|
| Hometown is an exercise that helps students consider the problems and
issues that arise in the developing a fair and equitable tax policy.
While the case is
not specific to federal tax law, it does allow a platform for teaching the ideas
associated with optimal tax policy. It also provides an excellent
look at some of the issues associated with state and local taxation
and allows students to consider the interaction between federal and
state and local taxation that will affect their clients in the
future. There is no correct solution except the one generally agreed
upon by Hometown participants. Feel free to participate in the experience by sending your own
response or suggested solution to Hometown's
dilemma. Good luck in your endeavors and make sure Robert's Rules
of Order are close by.
