Starting salary for new officers is estimated at $40,000 including benefits. Experienced officers salaries will depend on experience and rank. All officers work 8 hour shifts. The shifts are 7 am-3 pm, 3 pm-11 pm, and 11 pm-7 am. During the current shortage of manpower officers have been requested to work double shifts. The overtime rate for an experienced officer is approximately $50 per hr. Overtime for the previous year totaled 5000 hrs. Despite the overtime, the crime statistics you observed in an earlier table are still valid. The chief assures you that because of the physical stress on individual officers, additional overtime for current officers will not resolve the problem.
